Meet our Lead Pastors
Pastors Don and Jonna Gibson
Pastors Don and Jonna Gibson are the lead pastors at MercyGate Church. Don was called to the ministry at the age of 13 and began serving full time at 18. His life experience and deep love for the church have taught him valuable life lessons. He is passionate about sharing the Gospel, empowering pastors and equipping business and community leaders. He has been married to his wife Jonna for over 35 years. Their two sons serve with him in ministry along with their two beautiful daughter-in-loves. They have three precious grandchildren they can’t stop talking about. Their ultimate goal is to finish this life race well, and help others do the same.
Brent Williams, Executive Pastor
Pastor Brent served as a lead pastor for 12 years before he came to MercyGate in 2015 to serve as our Executive Pastor of Development. His 30+ years of ministry experience has at its center his love for seeing people encounter Jesus, grow and live in their unique purpose. His care and humor reaches across generational lines. At MercyGate, Pastor Brent oversees our Discipleship, Groups Ministry, Multi-Site Development, as well as missions and outreach through Kingdom Builders. When he’s not busy innovating church ministries or planning the next multi-site or missions event, Brent enjoys spending time trying to rediscover his golf swing. And if you ask him, he will tell you his biggest success is his family—his wife, four children, and five grandkids, who keep him young and fill his life with joy.
Keith Daugherty, Executive Pastor
Pastor Keith is the Executive Pastor of Ministries at Mercy Gate Church. He has 17 years of experience in youth ministry and 8 years of experience as a senior pastor. He is dedicated to effective church leadership and is committed to fostering growth and empowering the body of Christ to reach its full potential. While his foremost passion is his beautiful wife, Sharon, and their two boys, he also has a deep love, bordering on fanaticism, for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team–Roll Tide!

We believe that as a church we are to be a light to our community. We are a place where the hurting come to get answers and leave with healing and hope. We believe that with the same measure of forgiveness we have been given, we also need to give out to others. We are the living, breathing representation of Jesus. We aren’t just a club of believers that look cute, but we are a people on a mission to make a difference in this life. We are a church where lives are changed, relationships restored & destinies are discovered. Click here to learn about our vision and doctrinal beliefs.

Our logo resembles a circle representing God’s love for us…it has no beginning or end. We added a section representing a gate where everyone can enter, no matter who they are.
Now, a little back story:
The Golden Gate, also known as the Gate Beautiful or the Gate of Mercy, is the only eastern gate of the Temple Mount and one of only two Gates of the Old City of Jerusalem that used to offer access into the city from the East side. In Jewish tradition, the Messiah will enter Jerusalem through this gate from the Mount of Olives. Christians and Muslims believe this was the gate through which Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
While Pastor Don and Jonna were in Israel, they saw a sign that said “Gate Beautiful,” and underneath it were the words “Gate of Mercy.” They started inquiring about the name. They were in the process of changing the church’s name from First Assembly of God Mont Belvieu to something else and had been praying about it.
Acts 3:2-8 KJV
Now, a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly, the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking, jumping, and praising God.
We want to avoid passing by, stepping over, or looking away from others as we pass them by to go to a house of worship. We want MercyGate to be a place where we bring the broken and they feel accepted and loved. All creation is meant to be restored and reconciled to a God who gives up on no one. His name, with its immense power, has the ability to bring every forgotten beggar from the margins to the forefront.
Mercy is used in the Bible to give forgiveness or withhold punishment even when it is deserved.
We pray that MercyGate is a place where people enter into the forgiveness and love of God. We want this to be a place where people can find hope, where lives can be changed, relationships restored, and destinies discovered.
