EMOJI Part 1: Controlling Emotions
Emoji Controlling Emotions (Message with Bryan Duncan and Pastor Don)
Prov 29:11, 11 A fool expresses all his emotions, but a wise person controls them. (from GOD’S WORD )
Let me start this by saying…God gave us Emotions…He didn’t give us over to our emotions…
Emoji’s: We all have seen them and many of us have used them in text messages…if you are like me I have used them wrongly…
Here is a list of the Top 10 Used Emoji’s…
- Sparkles emoji ✨
- Person with folded hands 🙏
- Smiling face with hearts 🥰
- Pleading face 🥺
- Smiling face with heart-shaped eyes 😍
- Fire 🔥
- Rolling on the floor laughing emoji 🤣
- Red heart ❤️
- Loudly crying face 😭
- Face with tears of joy 😂
Transition: I was told recently that God intended our lives to be Musically and not Dramas…but as I look at this Emotion wheel…it looks like a drama to me…but the guy speaking said something pretty interesting…If you see life as a Musical…you know there is always suspenseful music at times, sad music, surprising music, Joyful music…but then there are love songs in every musical…and when you don’t like the music of your life, change the tune.
Here is the deal with Christianity…it never tells us to repress our emotions or deny them as if they don’t exist (that’s Budism)…matter of fact scripture says, “Jesus is touched by the feelings of our infirmities…” he experienced and expressed emotions…over the next few weeks we’ll talk about several of these emotions and what Jesus experienced.
The Greatest of all Emotion is LOVE:
But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Gal.5:22
Introduce Bryan Duncan…Love Takes Time!
Love Takes Time (song)
Bryan thank you so much for being here…this is going to be so fun, but I believe so helpful to people…
One of the things I have always loved about your music was and is…it is Honest.
Too often we as believers aren’t Honest about things, especially Emotions.
Tell me about the Song Chains:
- Chains …. “come in every shape and size”….”don’t hardly feel em after while”
At the end you (or your directive) would share something based on what chains might look like away from the typical labels.
I would then introduce the next song based on Jeremiah 29:11 “God allows us to experience the consequences of our sins…. But it’s still a learning process that he has ordained….
- Got Ya Where You Want Me…..”If you wanna be clear with any certainty, if I am doin alright. I can thank the good Lord in the place that I’m in and stand in the good light.”
Following this song would be commentary or testimony specific…You know Bryan in Romans 8:28 the words “Work Together” is actually one Greek word which means to be a fellow worker…so the things are not always good but if we will Work together with the circumstances, the Lord, and our own struggles it will turn out for good if we don’t let go. That is why we need others in our lives to help encourage us…
I would then quote James 5:16…. “Confess your faults one to another … that you might be healed”….even after knowing Christ there is a need to pursue the Road To Redemption daily!
Denial of our defects of character can be a strong blindness…”you can’t improve a defect…it has to be replaced”…. it is overcome only by a relationship with God and at least one other person you trust….
“Turning your life and your WILL over to the care of God”… is a decision that requires daily Maintenance… “as Iron sharpens Iron.. so one man sharpens another”..?
- Little Bit of Time…. “I spoke to God and told him Don’t think I’m gonna make it…”
Followed by commentary on how someone else inspires us to overcome our defects of character..
Okay, Bryan this next song has got to be one of the Greatest songs ever written…
- Love you with my life… “you will not suffer long… for I have suffered for you”
Followed by a brief prayer for clarity and sanity in our sufferings!…(this could be a wonderful moment with God and the congregation)
And commentary about how Even in our brokenness… we can find joy in knowing that God is our advocate… defender… and strength… to face the daily task of turning our Will over to him so that we may be “reasonably happy in this life… and supremely happy with him forever in the next” … He can make all things right if we surrender to his will….
Commentary from your speaker following on a note of joy and confidence that we can accept hardship as a pathway to peace!
I would introduce the last song (done as a possible encore):
None of us gets out of life without mistakes and the need to recover…and make better choices… “our primary purpose” says Oswald Chambers in his devotional My Utmost For His Highest… “is to serve as a monument to God’s grace!” We can still dance in our old age… even if it is a “Victorious Limp”!…… and we can be confident that God is the God of Another Chance!
- Blue Skies
I think this is the Promise we are in pursuit of…to have the winds of change blow love my way….
- After this Day is Gone
