UNCOMMON Series: Powerful Partnerships

Powerful Partnerships Luke 5

Introduction:  Today we have to Celebrate a few of the things we saw God do in 2022…As we saw Lives Changed, Relationships Restored and Destinies Discovered…

As we receive our Tithe and Kingdom Builders offering…I want to draw your attention to a young lady whose act of Kindness and Generosity Saved a Nation…it was Pharaoh’s Daughter…

  • Her one act of Generosity saved a child and that child saved a nation…
  • We never know what our Generosity in tithing and Kingdom Builders may impact…
  • But I can tell you this…If you’ll look at the card you were handed when you came in…
    • We served 1072 guests last year
    • We had 265 Salvations
    • Saw 3,355 people ministered to in our local outreaches and a portion of that was because of our Partnership with Helping Hands Ministry…
    • 249 People have connected in Groups
    • We saw 398 people baptized in 2022…
    • Through our Youth and Kids camps along with Beach Club…we had 376 students of all ages have a life-changing encounter with Jesus….
  • Because of your faithfulness and generosity to Tithe and Kingdom Builders giving…we have seen incredible impact….

Transition:  Last week I handed out a Kingdom Builders Card that has a statement written across it:  “Don’t do the Math; Just do Your Part.”

  • At the Core of that statement is the idea of Partnership…
  • The bible is full of Partnerships
  • Life is full of Partnerships.
    • Let me share a few Partnerships that are significant in the ministry of this church…

VIDEO

  1. Productivity
    1. Productivity is found in Partnerships…
      1. From bees partnering with flowers, we have pollination.
      2. The Seed partners with the soil and produces the purpose of the seed.
  • The bible is full of Partnerships that I could list, and that list could go on and on…
  1. Jesus partnered with men from all walks of life who became partners…
    1. Run around Choosing People to partner with…
    2. Jesus was choosing a team…so you have to be careful who you select to be on your team that your partner with…
  • Jesus invited 12 to come closer…. I’m not talking about the 5000 that are hungry…or the 70 that were sent out…this is the 12…the Team…
  1. He then invited 3 to come even closer in the partnership and they heard, saw, experienced…even were privy to greater revelation than the other 9.
  2. One even betrayed Jesus…but just because Jesus was betrayed, He never gave up on Partnership…and doesn’t to this day…

Luke 5:1-8

5 So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, 2 and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. 3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” 6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. NKJV

Transition:  I love this passage of Scripture because it is rich with insight for life and business…about 6 years ago I did a series from this passage…might need to go back and revisit that series…this however wasn’t a part of that series….

  1. Preparation
    1. The text says the men were washing their nets…
      1. Part of the washing of nets meant they were removing the debris, the trash, and mending the holes in the nets…
      2. I want you to know that preparation time isn’t wasted time…
  • Removing the trash, the debris, stitching the torn places of life…I mean your net…is never wasted time.
  1. Partnerships have got to be prepared for…
    1. Peter is preparing for a next opportunity to fish…but the empty torn nets are a sign of failure….
    2. You cannot allow failure to stop your preparation for your next…
  • What if we used every setback, disaster, and failure as a time to Celebrate and Prepare for our Next opportunity…
  1. What if your toiling all night and catching nothing was a blessing…
  • Jesus Partners with Peter
    1. Jesus asked to partner with Peter and his boat to teach the crowd…
      1. Now the problem with the text is, it trivializes the boat…
      2. You and I see a boat…but to Peter, Jesus was Partnering with Peter’s Business…
  • CAN YOU AND I PARTNER WITH JESUS WHEN HE WANTS TO GET ALL IN YOUR BUSINESS…?
  1. Now if you and I are going to partner with Jesus there are some questions that will need to be addressed: I’m only going to give you a couple.
    1. Will we do what He asks of us?
    2. Can you stand to be blessed?
  2. Will we do what He Asks of Us
    1. The text reads…Jesus told peter to let down the Nets for a catch…and Peter put down a Net…
      1. Listen, let me help you, if you are partnering with the creator of the universe…you my friend are not the smartest person in this partnership.
      2. Peter is a fisherman…but Jesus was the creator of the fish…
      3. See Peter had been fishing all night…Peter was the expert fisherman…Jesus was a preacher / teacher….
        1. Remain teachable…
        2. This partial obedience gets Peter in trouble all the way to Easter Morning…I’ll teach on it Easter.
      4. Can You Stand to Be Blessed
        1. The blessing of the lord may sink your boat if you aren’t careful….
        2. When you truly begin to get blessed, people will talk about you…gossip on you…
  • When God begins to bless your life, you haven’t ever seen that level of attack…
  1. Third question is: Do you have some Partners?
    1. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
  1. Peter had some partners that were bringing some solutions to the situation…
  • You need some partners that show up with solutions…they have their own boats…
  1. People who know how to pull their own weight…
  2. When you’re boat is sinking…you don’t need buddies who sit on the sideline saying…”well there he goes again biting off more than he can chew…” no you need some Partners that will rise to the occasion and make a difference…

Transition:  Partners that will do their part…not just the math.

  1. Stop doing the Math; just do your part
    1. I’ve meditated on this a lot this week…the statement bothers me…it challenges me…if I’m honest, it convicts me…
    2. I said it last week talking about the Kingdom Builders Commitment for 2023…and if you didn’t fill one out…would you consider doing so and putting it on the altar after service….
    3. The phrase that Convicted me was the portion that said: “Just Do My Part”
      1. What is my Part?
      2. In KB you may think it’s writing a Check…and I’d say that is “A Part” but it isn’t some or yours “MY Part.”
    4. My Part is:
      1. My Relationships; who do I know that you need to know
      2. My influence
  • Stop taking myself so flippantly!
  1. Everything I bring to the table.
    1. My gifts
    2. My talents
  2. My best attitude
  3. My testimony
  • What I have read that you need to read…
  • My experiences…the good ones as well as the bad ones….
  1. My owning the Vision…not just writing a check to it…when I own it I tell others…how many years do you think Peter told the story of how Jesus got in his boat and caught all these fish…at least 50 I know of…because it was over 50 years later before Luke wrote his gospel.
  1. Our Greatest Partnership
    1. Our greatest partnership is the one Peter made that day…a Partnership with Jesus…
    2. Let me tell you what you bring to this partnership with Jesus….You bring the same thing I brought.
      1. My Sin
      2. My Confession
  • My Belief
