Family Fight 6: Part 2-Why Get in the Ring

Why Get In The Ring (Why Get Married)

WHY GET MARRIED

Introduction:  We have entered into the most requested series of the year…” Family Fight”…Learning to fight for vs. fighting with our families.  My goal is to give biblical insight into some of the family dynamics and challenges families are facing in our current culture.

If you asked people here this morning “Why Get Married” or “What is the Purpose of Marriage” you would get all kinds of answers, but I want to look at a few things from Scripture that may give our relationship purpose and if you are not married this will add benefit to your life as well as prepare you for when you get married.

Gen 2:7-3:1, 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. 8 Life in God’s Garden. The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. 9 And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10 Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. 11 The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. 13 The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates. 15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” 18 And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” 19 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. NKJV

Transition:  There is a lot in these Scriptures about relationships and marriage, but I want to focus on just a couple of things and pray.

I. Not Good for Man to be Alone
a. Vs. 18 here states “it is not good for man(meaning mankind) to be alone”
b. The word good here means sufficient or satisfactory, to both God and the man Adam
c. God did not create Man to be alone but to be interdependent on others.
d. When God created Adam in Genesis 1, he created Adam complete that is how he could reach into Adam and Pull a Woman out with just a rib…
e. Now Why Would God say it is not good for man to be alone.
i. First of all, the word “alone” mean Solitary, it doesn’t mean incomplete for we know Adam was complete before Eve and was complete again when he Took Eve as a Wife…
ii. Man left alone is Selfish…man created in the image of God needed someone to showand lavish His Goodness upon…
iii. Man needed someone to commune with, to bounce ideas off of, someone to fight with and to make up with…
iv. Someone who was equal to man and not beneath him or above him, thus the reason God took a rib and not a heal or a hair off ofhis head. So women can come along side of a man and be a help meet (a counterpart, help, a reflection on and from the other side)
v. Thus, the woman thinks with one side of her brain, while man thinks with the other
vi. Women are usually more sensitive while men are usually more rational.
vii. The balance is found in the reflectiverelationship of both, not he’s right and she’s right, or vise-versa, but in relationship.
viii. Another reason it is not good for a man to be alone is because man is a treasure seeker by nature…he get’s that from His heavenly father, God is after treasure, so when a man finds a wife he finds a life long treasure hunt and her likewise.

II. Another Reason “To Get Married” is to Produce
a. God gave a command to Adam and Eve and that was for Production and productivity…
i. See when we don’t produce something or teach our kids to produce something it leads to depression and a lack of purpose…
ii. Now when I say produce, I’m not simply talking about having children…
iii. You were created by a creative God, who hard wired creativity in you for the purpose of creating.
b. A couple used in the hands of God can produce for the Kingdom
i. Produce Million Dollar Ideas
ii. Produce Dominion and Rule…Order the Chaos
iii. Produce Dreams and bring the Unseen into the Seen
iv. Produce Faith, Hope and Love replenish the earth with Good stuff from the heart of God
v. They can also produce God honoring children…
c. Duet. 32:30 declares that, “one can put a thousand to flight, but 2 can put 10,000 to flight, that is the reason the Devil is always trying to get you to fight with your spouse and your relationships
d. This is true in the church; if we fight each other and the Bride Groom we don’t chase the 10,000 fold of the enemy out of our lives.

You understanding the completeness of Adam is crucial…God is so Masculine that Isaiah refers to Him as “The Everlasting Father” but the bible also refers to the Female gender side of God as well.  It doesn’t mean God is male or female, but rather God is complete.  This is important for When we speak of Christ, He was complete lacking nothing.  Timothy and Paul calls Christ the Second Adam, so that means there is an Eve inside of Christ.

III. Example of Christ’s Relationship to the Church

Eph 5:24-33

24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”   32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular solove his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

NKJV

a. Now if you think these Scriptures are about your relationship with Husband and Wife you are crazy…these verses are about the Lord Jesus and His Church
b. Now our Marriage Relationships are to be an example of Jesus’ love relationship for His Church…Let me explain….
i. Marriage is a God thing
1. what society calls marriage is a merger of two independent companies keeping their independence
2. What God calls marriage is a REUNITING OF ADAM
3. That is why you can live with someone and not be reunited until you are Married and do things God’s way, then you enter to God’s Design and Covenant called Marriage
4. This is the Mystery of Christ and the Church

c. Now we must understand Eve was deceived, not Adam, Adam willfully took of the tree.  Adam chose to die with His bride (Eve) so everything under His dominion went with Him
d. Now Let’s Look at the Second Adam Jesus – Complete in Himself
i. For 33years He finds no help meet
ii. He even said, “Foxes have holes, birds have nest but the son of man has no place to lay his headheadship, help mate to carry authority
iii. Just like the first Adam, God the Father declares “I am going to pull a help meet out of you, if you will go to the cross….”But for the joy set before him, he endured the cross.

Can You Hear Jesus say this: “If I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS TO GET HER, I’LL GO”

iv. So, when that Roman soldier pierced Jesus in the side, I believe the church was brought forth at that moment, the Bride of Christ but also the Body of Christ, because the Church then became Bone of His Bone and Flesh of His Flesh and we are redeemed or brought back into completeness by His Blood!

Transition:  The 1st Adam died with His wife, but the second Adam, Jesus died for His Bride.  MARRIAGE IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE LOVE REALTIONSHIP GOD HAS WITH HIS CHURCH

If a Husband and Wife will Get this in your spirit, you’ll concern Hell by the Power the Two of you could walk in.

If the Church understood this, we would see ourselves differently.

IV. Twelve Marriage Busters
a. A Long Marriage is a Secure Marriage – Taking each other for Granted
b. Selfishness and The Preoccupation of You
c. Immaturity
d. Manipulation
e. Lack of Commitment
f. Promiscuity
g. Stress
h. Economic Pressure
i. Outside Interference
j. Unforgiveness
k. Comparing
l. The Wrong Environment

Transition:  All these can wear on your relationship with the Lord as well and steal that relationship!

Conclusion:  This is why we must learn to Fight for vs. Fight With…we have to fight for our families.
